The Responsible Business Alliance (RBA) is the largest industry coalition dedicated to corporate responsibility in supply chains. Members, suppliers and stakeholders collaborate to improve working and environmental conditions as well as business performance through leading standards and practices. We view membership as a foundational component of our approach to corporate responsibility.
We know that our strength comes from our inclusive and diverse community. Our commitment to diversity extends to our global supply chain too.
Our suppliers should be a reflection of the communities where we do business and the customers who find value in our products. To that end, our goal is to grow and expand our partnerships with companies throughout the value chain—particularly minority- and women-owned enterprises.
We have conducted an internal review of existing suppliers to establish a
baseline
for growth and established a working group to benchmark our supplier diversity
programs. We know that our journey to diversify our supply chain will evolve
over
time, and we are committed to making progress and increasing our outreach.

As a global leader in cybersecurity, Palo Alto Networks is committed to protecting our digital way of life. Central to that mission is our comprehensive corporate responsibility platform, which includes our pledge to protect and respect our planet. We:
Inform, engage and inspire our employees to have a positive environmental impact
Deploy best-in-class environmental initiatives across our corporate footprint
Design and distribute our products and services with minimal environmental disruption
Collaborate with our stakeholders to encourage adoption of similar environmental practices
We will be a carbon neutral business by 2030.
The Paris Agreement calls for the international community to limit global warming to well below 1.5 degrees Celsius by 2050. We've set ourselves the target of doing our part to reach that goal 20 years early, and we are making great progress.
We've already:
- Purchased renewable energy certifications to match 100% of the anticipated energy usage for our U.S. offices for calendar year 2021
- Invested in high-quality carbon offsets for shipping and travel for CY 2020 and 2021
- Launched a platform to monitor and measure performance against our stated goals
We're planning:
- Scopes 1, 2 and 3 emission reductions that align with the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTI)
- Expanded partnerships with leading standards and reporting organizations
- Product stewardship and engagement with our customers and supply chain partners
We disclose our environmental impact, risks, and stewardship efforts to CDP as part of our drive for sustainability leadership.
Our 2021 Climate Change Report reflects several significant steps on our acceleration toward sustainability leadership. Working closely with our board and executive leadership, we established a set of Climate Commitments to drive to net zero carbon emissions by 2030 and to set and meet ambitious Science-Based Targets. We developed a comprehensive, company- and value chain-wide climate and clean energy strategy aligned with the Science-Based Targets Initiative and the Task Force on Climate Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD). And, we partnered with Silicon Valley Clean Energy to procure 100% renewable electricity for our corporate headquarters, raising our global footprint powered by renewable energy to 71%.
In 2020, we submitted our first environmental disclosure to CDP (formerly known as the Carbon Disclosure Project). Our 2020 Climate Change Report marked an important milestone, establishing a critical baseline for our environmental efforts across the 14 modules in CDP's General Climate Change reporting framework. We were able to assess key material issues, compare our performance to useful benchmarks, benefit from CDP's assessment methodologies and identify areas in which we can continuously improve. CDP scored our report a “C” which reflects the solid foundation we have been building.
We give our voice to climate coalitions and policy advocacy.
Just as we partner with others to address global cybersecurity challenges, we recognize the value of joining forces to address the climate crisis. Palo Alto Networks is actively involved in the following coalitions and advocates for environmental stewardship:
Alliance of CEO Climate Leaders: The Alliance is a global community of business leaders who use their position and influence to drive bold, corporate climate action. Members set ambitious targets, actively seek to reduce emissions within their own businesses, and in doing so, inspire other companies to do the same.
We Mean Business: This global nonprofit coalition works with the world's most influential businesses to take action on climate change.
The Climate Pledge: We've made a pledge to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2040. Companies and organizations that sign the pledge agree to regular reporting on greenhouse gas emissions, carbon elimination through business change and innovations, and credible offsets to neutralize any remaining emissions to achieve net zero annual carbon emissions by 2040.
Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi): The SBTi, a partnership between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), drives ambitious climate action in the private sector by enabling companies to set science-based emissions reduction targets. The SBTi call to action is one of the We Mean Business Coalition commitments.
Our workforce serves as climate ambassadors
With a global workforce more than 10,000 strong, employees have a multiplier effect on climate impact. Through green teams active in all regions, we're able to increase awareness of eco-friendly behaviors that align with our climate commitment. From park and waterway cleanups to environmental information sessions or activities that focus on the intersection between the environment, recreation and wellbeing, green teams have a hands-on and meaningful impact around the globe.
They set out aiming for the distance from headquarters to our London office and ended up with the distance of a lap around the world! All because of our generous, caring, and determined employees.

We are inspiring, teaching and empowering the next generation of cybersecurity experts and advocates.
Our Global Cybersecurity Education Fund is set up to fund cybersecurity education programs and inspire students to pursue careers in technology.
Our education programs align to our Inclusion & Diversity initiatives and aim to break through traditional boundaries of background and gender to empower the next generation of cybersecurity experts.
Cyber A.C.E.S
Cyber A.C.E.S. is our free, cybersecurity education program for kids ages 5 to 15. Cyber A.C.E.S. provides the cybersecurity basics students need to have safer online experiences and become good digital citizens. Lessons can be facilitated by anyone, regardless of their knowledge level, with each module tailored to a specific age group. Palo Alto Networks employees also volunteer to deploy lessons to nonprofits and schools.
Cybersecurity Academy
The Cybersecurity Academy prepares academic students for careers in cybersecurity and technology. It offers courseware at no cost to qualified universities, colleges and high schools, including hands-on labs, faculty training and virtual firewalls.
Girl Scouts of the USA
Our Girl Scouts of the USA partnership is designed to inspire the next generation of female cybersecurity experts! Our national cybersecurity badge program helps girls to break through traditional STEM barriers and shows them the path to exciting, challenging and well-paying jobs in tech and cybersecurity in the future.
Cyber STARS
Our Cyber STARS program addresses racial disparity in technology. It seeks to create opportunities for Black youth ages 5–25 through education, training, mentorship and economic empowerment, with a focus on organizations serving large numbers of Black and brown students.
Our culture encourages volunteerism and charitable giving.
We support community involvement and encourage employees to invest their time and monetary resources in causes that matter to them.
Employees donate to eligible nonprofits and schools, and we double their donations! From time to time, we also run special matching programs – when additional funding helps to provide relief from natural disasters and catastrophic events.
For those who give generously with their time, our “Dollars for Doers” program allows employees to have an even greater impact: each hour of volunteer time can direct US$25 to the organization!
Departments and business units enjoy volunteering as team-building, so our volunteer grant program provides a funding allowance to cover expenses for teams of eight or more who wish to make a meaningful difference.
Our corporate philanthropy aligns impact with inclusion.
At Palo Alto Networks, our philanthropic focus aims to align our giving with our core competency of cybersecurity as well as our commitment to improve the equity and inclusion of communities most under-represented and underserved. Our investments focus on organizations that provide basic needs, educational enrichment, health services and address social justice for populations aligned with our inclusion and diversity initiatives.
We work hand in hand with our employee network groups (ENGs) to invest in causes that serve to uplift Black, Latinx, Women, Veterans, LGBTQIA+ and individuals with disabilities. Our investments in educational programs are generally focused on advancing STEM skills for youth and young adults.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had devastating impacts around the globe and will leave waves for years, if not decades, to come.
Recognizing that we were about to enter a period of considerable uncertainty , early in the pandemic, Palo Alto Networks established a COVID Relief Fund. Through multiple internal fundraising campaigns and initiatives, employees contributed nearly $1.7 million to the Fund, and after special matching, our company raised more than $5.8 million for colleagues and communities. This money has been used to support local and regional organizations providing pandemic relief and to set up an employee relief fund for those employees experiencing hardship as a result of COVID and other disasters.Projects Around the Globe Supporting COVID Relief

Above, we’ve summarized our Corporate Responsibility pillars of Passion, Planet and People. We know that stakeholders want to understand how Palo Alto Networks is performing against standard environmental, social and governance (ESG) metrics.
In response, we released our inaugural ESG Supplement in October 2021 to highlight our achievements for FY21 and outline what’s coming next to scale our ESG agenda in FY22 and beyond.
The FY21 ESG Supplement is a demonstration of our commitment to increase transparency and engage with our stakeholders on these important topics. The supplement is aligned to the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) Standards and to the World Economic Forum’s Stakeholder Capitalism Metrics. We look forward to increasing the frequency of future ESG communications and welcome your input.
